United States History

Text: United States History in Christian Perspective Heritage of Freedom, A Beka Book.

Description: The course is divided into two semesters. The first semester addresses the discovery and exploration of America to reconstruction following the Civil War. The second semester encompasses the period of national growth and free enterprise through two World Wars to current challenges following the attack of September 11, 2001. Weekly assignments from the text book with periodic quizzes and tests to assess progress will be our standard procedure. Class time will be devoted to skill challenges, map exercises, guest lectures, audio-visual presentations and special projects. Field trips will be planned and a major project (2nd semester) will be assigned.

Expectations: This course will be presented in an advanced placement manner thus requiring self study of the text, detailed note taking, active participation during class and significant outside reading and research to further supplement and expand your appreciation of the subject. It is imperative that all homework be studiously completed. Each student is expected to be responsible, mature, and respectful and prepared. The primary objective is to learn more about the history of our country and to have fun doing it.

Materials: Each student will be required to have in possession a text book (United States History in Christian Perspective Heritage of Freedom, www.abeka.com, 1-887-223-5226, code # 35319, $22.50), loose leaf notebook, writing tools, and an inquisitive mind. I will order a test booklet and control the testing. Approximate cost: $6.40 per student.
