Class Length:

One Semester

Description:

During the semester, students will prepare the following variety of speeches:

            Introductory Speech
            Dramatic Reading
            Informative Speech
            Instructive Speech
            Persuasive Speech
            Impromptu Speech

Usually speeches will be given every other week.  When students are not preparing for a speech, they will have reading assignments in the text with worksheets on topics such as delivery, citing sources, and methods of persuasion. 

Student evaluations will be based on speeches, worksheets, and class participation. 

Textbook:

The Art of Public Speaking, 10th edition, by Stephen Lucas offers practical information on preparing and presenting speeches.  ISBN: 978-0-07-338515-0. 
The 8th or 9th edition will be fine for our purposes also.

 

Prerequisite: Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
