Latin I
Description
Latin I is offered in alternating school years. It will be offered in the 2010-2011 school year. The Latin I course is designed for mature and motivated students with disciplined study habits. It is most appropriate for students who have a good grounding in English grammar and/or who have studied Latin at the elementary or middle school level. The emphasis of the course is on Latin grammar and vocabulary as well as increasing the student's English vocabulary through the study of English derivatives from Latin roots. There is a great deal of memorization required in the study of Latin so students need to be prepared to work at their study on a consistent daily basis. Students will complete weekly translation and grammar assignments as well as frequent vocabulary quizzes. Each student will keep a word bank of color-coded index cards. There will be regular tests, and at the end of the second semester students will participate in the annual Roman banquet.
