French 1

In this class, we will study French in a way that honors the Lord. The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of the French language. This involves focusing on the four pillars required to learn any new language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The second goal is to ignite a true interest that will keep students motivated to actually use their new French language skill. This will be accomplished by encouraging vocabulary build-up via various engaging real-life conversations. For example the student will be able to carry out a basic dinner conversation in French. We will use the textbook as a structural backbone for the course, but a wide array of additional material (e.g.: songs, DVDs, internet content…) will be provided. There is a $10 fee to cover copies. This course is suited for any beginner; the only pre-requisite is a strong desire to demystify French as a foreign language through consistent hard work and speak it as well as you speak English. We will have a final project in the form of a mini-play or another assignment involving teamwork. At the end of this class, students will be equipped to dive into French II where they will learn advanced intricacies of the language.
