Registration Policies for 2008-2009 Accademic Year

We have made changes (highlighted in red) to the Registration process this year, so please read carefully. Our hope is that the changes will make registration easier and more equitable for all.

Eligibility:

  1. All Cornerstone students must be between the ages of thirteen and eighteen on December 31 of the academic year.
  2. Students must have been homeschooled under their parents’ direct supervision for the entire previous year. This helps ensure that the student and parents understand their responsibilities as homeschoolers and that they are prepared to adapt to the tutorial environment.
  3. At least one of the student’s parents must agree with Cornerstone’s statement of faith.
  4. Both parents must support the mission of Cornerstone and their student’s home education and be willing to abide by the Cornerstone policies as explained in the Cornerstone Family Handbook.
  5. The student’s family must actively participate in a local body of believers and provide a letter of reference from their pastor stating their involvement.
  6. Each student and all custodial parents must submit to an interview and be accepted by the Board of Directors into the Cornerstone program.

If, at the discretion of the board, any student or family is not meeting its obligations to the tutors or other families of Cornerstone, the board may declare that student or family ineligible to attend Cornerstone for the next academic year. Declarations of ineligibility shall be made in writing before June 30 of the previous year. Any student or family declared ineligible must reapply and submit to an interview before being readmitted.

The following definitions are used for registration considerations:

13-year olds are students who will be 13 on December 31 of the current year.
14-year olds are students who will be 14 on December 31 of the current year.
15-year olds are students who will be 15 on December 31 of the current year.
16-year olds are students who will be 16 on December 31 of the current year.
17-year olds are students who will be 17 on December 31 of the current year.
18-year olds are students who will be 18 on December 31 of the current year.

Application Process

Interview

Prior to registering for a class, each prospective student must have been interviewed and accepted by the Board of Directors of Cornerstone. This includes new students of Existing or Returning Families. Each student must be interviewed. Any student who has not interviewed prior to Registration will not register. By early February, the Cornerstone Board will announce interview dates and post them on the website. Contact the registrar to schedule an interview.

Registration

Acceptance into Cornerstone does not reserve a spot in any class. On Registration Day, accepted students other than 13-year olds may register for up to four classes. 13-year olds may enroll in up to two classes.

Existing/Returning Families register before New Families. Students register by birth year regardless of class standing. There will be NO bumping of any kind. 13-year olds register on a waitlist and are added to open classes after new family registration is complete.

Many classes have prerequisites. It is the responsibility of the family to satisfy any and all prerequisites prior to Registration. Any student who has not completed prerequisites and been placed on the tutor's approved student list will not register for that class.

All fees are collected at registration. Fees include a non-refundable registration fee and a fee for each class. The registration fee covers administration, building, capitol expenses, and study hall costs. Appendix B of the Cornerstone Family Handbook contains the current fee schedule.

Checks (or FACTS forms) will be made out for each student at the time of Registration.

72 hours after the student registration is submitted, any “swapping” of classes on the registration results in a $50 change fee per class. (A student may ADD classes without penalty.) If a student withdraws/drops from a class no class fee refund will be made unless class slot is filled by another student. The Annual Registration Fee will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Registration for New Families 2008-2009

Monday, April 21 st

13-year olds are added in the order they have been waitlisted in any class that still has openings after new family registration is complete.

If you miss your scheduled time you may register your child during a later slot, however, you will not “bump” another student or have priority in any way.

Registration is conducted on a first come, first served basis, within each time slot. Parents may sign in beginning at 7:45 am. For example, if a parent has a child in the 9am group, they can come early, get in line, sign the clipboard at 7:45am, leave, and come back at 9am to register. Or, parent can just come at 9am and sign the clipboard to register at the end of the list.

Any enrollment after the New Families Registration date is considered a Late Registration and the Late Registration Fee will apply. Registrations will be accepted until two weeks prior to class start date.
